Maya Macdonald

Maya Macdonald is a writer for stage and screen. Recently she was a Playwrights Realm Writing Fellow where she developed her play brunch which was an Honorable Mention for The Relentless Award, a Finalist for O’Neill Playwrights Conference, and a Semi-Finalist for Theatre503’s Playwriting Award in London. Her plays also include Three Anne Franks (Finalist, Rattlestick Playwrights Commission), Raw Pasta (Semi-Finalist, The O’Neill and Seven Devils Playwrights Conference), Leave the Balcony Open (Finalist, Princess Grace Award) and is currently working on a new play They Say Hearing is the Last Sense to Go about her younger brother who passed away the early pandemic. Her plays have been seen and/or developed at Rattlestick, New Ohio, Echo, MeetCute LA, Oye Group, Tofte Lake, Bushwick Starr, New Dramatists, Ensemble Studio Theatre, MCC Theater Young Playwrights, Three Legged Dog, The Flea, Rising Phoenix Rep, JACK, Dixon Place, among others.
Maya’s TV and Film projects include her original animated series currently in
development with FishLadder Productions, a TV adaptation of her play brunch, and her new original screenplay They Say Hearing is the Last Sense to Go.
Maya teaches both Screenwriting and Playwriting. She has been a teaching artist at The Beacon School where she was also a playwright in residence. She currently teaches and coaches Screenwriting at The Prep and is a resident playwright with The Rogue Players. She received her BA from Bennington College and her MFA from Hunter College where she studied with Annie Baker, Brighde Mullins, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and received the Irv Zarkowr Award for Excellence in Playwriting.
